The Back Story - Changing the Lives of Kids with Scoliosis

Ciara and Abbie are a daughter-mother team heading into a crucial doctor's appointment to find out if the teenager's latest medical treatment has been a waste of time or a saving grace. Ciara first learned of her condition when she was 13 years of age. Much later then many other kids who find out - they have what could be a crippling medical condition called scoliosis. There are close to eight million people in America with scoliosis - almost two million of those - are children. Why do girls have a worse time with this than boys? It's a question that haunts hundreds of thousands of families. We begin when they find out if the past 6 months in a corset-style back brace 23 hours a day - means success or failure in their drive to keep Ciara OUT of an operating room. Do you undergo major surgery to have metal rods and screws implanted along her backbone to straighten her curve and twisted back? Or do you try alternative therapies that have been popular in Europe for decades? If you go for the latter - is it enough? You will meet other parents who've been faced with the same anguishing decisions. And meet some adults who walked this same road years ago and can now share their wisdom as grown women looking back. The film is called -- 'The Back Story' - Changing the lives of kids with scoliosis.
